Cable Works, Software A Waste of Time, Installation TrickyJul 21, 2007
By E. M. Lisansky

This is an inexpensive alternate to paying Verizon $35 for a cable and software kit, plus $3.15 each for ringtones. However, lack of documentation, tricky installation, and imperfect plug fit make this a "4" rating instead of "5".
First: the phone plug end of this cable did not fit well into the LG VX8300 phone's jack, it requires a little bit of wiggling and twisting (while squeezing the pinch clips) but eventually did fit. Be careful not to put the plug in upside down; on mine, the label with the silver arrow was the DOWN side, and at first I thought the cable did not fit at all.
Second: On putting the supplied CD-ROM into the drive, it opened a software installation window. I looked for "LG VX8300" and- surprise! It's not even listed. Okay, I intended to use this with the free BitPim program anyway, so I just needed to install the driver(s). And where are they? Who knows.
Third: I just went ahead and connected the phone to my computer (running XP sp2), and it detected new hardware, and opened the Found New Hardware Wizard, and asked if it could search for the driver. Okay. Leaving the CD-ROM in the computer, I let the New Hardware Wizard run, and lo and behold, it found the driver. Actually it found four choices, for four different OS. Make sure you highlight the one for your OS (Windows XP, or 2K, or whatever), and hit OK.
Then: After installing the driver, the Found New Hardware Wizard popped up again, so I ran it again, and installed the driver. Then I tried BitPim and it could not find the phone. The Found New Hardware Wizard STILL wanted to run, so I ran it a third time. I actually think it had to install three different drivers or driver components, but the third time's the charm, as they say, and I now got the message that "Your Hardware Is Ready To Use", and BitPim WAS able to find the phone after that. I'm still not sure if the necessary drivers were on the CD-ROM or in XP.
So ya pays yer money, ya gets yer cheap products with no instructions, and ya takes yer chances. But hey-- it worked! And every free ringtone I create and put on my phone saves me $3.15 more...

USB Data Cable For LG VX-8300Jan 21, 2007
By ZenCity I ordered this cable (two of them actually) to use on the LG 8300. The driver disc contains software for the 8300 only not the 5300. Once loaded, it found the phone easily. I used bitpim (a free program you can find on the internet)to transfer data to the phone.
The price of the cable was excellent. I was unable to locate a data cable locally and was happy to find one on Amazon, even though it was only available through a third party. All in all, I recommend the product to those in need of cables for the LG 8300. For those wishing to use it on the LG 5300 please be aware there appears to be no driver included for your phone.

This is not an "all-in-one" package. This is JUST the cable and driver. You will likely need some type of additional software to actually DO anything with the phone. Check out a freeware program bitpim for that. I have a VX8300. The cable works. The driver works. Bitpim works.

Yes, the cable fits, but the CD driver is just for the 8300. I was not able to get it working.

Works as chargerApr 20, 2007
By Billy Pilgrim Driver install was easy and Bitpim access works just fine. The cable I received also charges the phone (VX8300 from Verizon).
